How is Cataract treated?

Cataract can be treated with surgery. Cataract eye surgery is now developed into one of the most advanced eye surgeries available. In cataract surgery, the cloudy lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial lens normally called as intraocular lens or IOL that allows the light to reach the retina.

Modern cataract surgery procedures include the use of ultrasound devices with high frequency to break the cloudy lenses into pieces and then gently remove those pieces from the eye through suction. The surgeon then closes the incision made during the surgery and places the IOL. A protective shield is placed over the eye to keep it safe and helps in recovery.

Cataract is a one-day surgery procedure which means you can go home within the same day of the surgery. Cataract surgery usually takes about 20-25min per eye.

Now a days Laser Cataract surgery replace the earlier method of the surgery. It normally takes less time and also reducing the use of surgical blades and other equipments.
